The ever developing skill of learning how Search Engines position sites on their organic search listings is known as Search Engine Optimisation. These lists are the main results that are shown when you do a search. They’re in addition to the PPC lists. The paid listings are typically in a yellow section at the top of the page, and in a column down the right hand side. All the rest have naturally been put into position. Algorithms are used to determine the position of a web site in a Search Engine directory.

Of course, we would like to be as high as possible on page one. If we’re the 7th listing on page 9 then we’re hardly going to get prospects beating our door down! We can’t know for sure about all the criteria Google and the like use to rank us. It isn’t something they publicise to the rest of us!

Nevertheless, an entire industry has evolved around Search Engine listings. So there are the Search Engines busily working on new systems on one side. Leading to great mystique over their ratings methodology. On the other side you have an SEO industry. Optimisation specialists test, quantify and evaluate a myriad of indicators that affect a site’s ratings.

There are two sides to SEO: ‘On-Page’ factors & ‘Off-Page’ factors. Additionally, demographics have an influence, but SEO doesn’t cover off-web factors. (We will cover off page optimisation in a separate article.)

‘On-Page’ SEO

Making changes directly to website pages to make them more Search Engine friendly is what On-Page SEO is all about. It’s not too complex – it just requires setting your website up the right way. The following summarises what’s required – Using internal links, keywords, header tags and meta tags.

Which may well sound like a foreign language to you! On-Page optimisation is now known to have the smallest affect on your page rank. To be blunt, some would say it hardly has any effect at all. Many years ago, you used to be able to dupe the SE’s with lots of on-page factors. However, those days are long gone.

There’s only one reason today for on page optimisation, and that’s to maximise in-bound back-links. Then it’s worthwhile to manipulate your web pages and have some internal links.

A Bit of Advice… Avoid doing SEO on keywords that have millions of listings. ‘Car Insurance’ is a term to stay away from – unless you want to compete with 70,000,000 others! When you’re just getting going, it’s not a great idea to face such huge competition!

On the other hand… Extend the phrase to Southampton car insurance and it’s under a third of a million. (Relevant if that’s the locality I work in). So a much more realistic target.

We can do much more with this. Trying to get a ranking for CAR INSURANCE would take a huge amount of time and money. I’d actually be head to head with the really big boys. A bad move all round really.

Therefore, we’re looking for phrases that yield less overall results – but quite accurately sum up what we do or what we offer. In Search Engine terms, these phrases (which can have a number of keywords) are referred to as long-tail. If your market’s very competitive, you could be selecting seven word phrases. Generally we use 3 to 4 words.

We prefer to begin optimisation strategies with phrases that bring in less than five hundred thousand results. Occasionally we’ll accept bigger numbers, but only if the results at the top haven’t been optimised well. As time goes on, we’ll benefit from an automatic improvement on the bigger terms as well. We can go for some of those after several months if we’ve SEO’d well. A plan like this is more strategic to start with. We go for the phrases that people who are looking to buy would use.

You should also build back links to various different pages – and not just your website’s homepage. This is known as deep linking. For example, build links to the pages that group products. That’s because pages like this generally have links to several individual pages. Don’t just create back-links to your home-page. Google and the other SE’s are looking more and more at how individual pages on your site are listed and treated.

Training for your CompTIA A+ has four specialist sections – you’ll have to qualify in just two sectors to be competent in A+. This is why, most colleges restrict their A+ to just two of the 4 sectors. We think this is too much of a compromise – certainly you’ll have the qualification, but training on all 4 will give you greater confidence in your working life, where gaps in your knowledge will expose weaknesses. That’s the reason why you deserve training in everything.

Alongside being taught how to build and fix computers, trainees involved in this training will have instruction on how to work in antistatic conditions, along with remote access, fault finding and diagnostics.

If you feel it appropriate to add Network+ training, you will additionally be able to assist with or manage networks of computers, giving you the facility to command a higher salary.

Ensure all your accreditations are current and what employers are looking for – don’t bother with studies which end up with a useless in-house certificate or plaque.

Unless your qualification is issued by a big-hitter like Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco or Adobe, then you may discover it won’t be commercially viable – because it won’t give an employer any directly-useable skills.

Talk to a professional consultant and we’d be amazed if they couldn’t provide you with many horror stories of students who’ve been conned by dodgy salespeople. Make sure you deal with a skilled professional who asks lots of questions to uncover the best thing for you – not for their paycheque! You need to find the very best place to start for you.

Don’t forget, if you have some relevant qualifications that are related, then you can sometimes expect to begin at a different level to a student who’s starting from scratch.

It’s wise to consider some basic PC skills training first. This can often make the transition to higher-level learning a a little easier.

Considering the amount of options that are available, it’s not really surprising that nearly all trainees don’t really understand the best career path they will follow.

Consequently, without any know-how of the IT market, how are you equipped to know what some particular IT person spends their day doing? How can you possibly choose what training route would be most appropriate for your success.

Contemplation on many issues is essential if you want to uncover a solution that suits you:

* Personality factors as well as your interests – what work-oriented areas please or frustrate you.

* What sort of time-frame do you want for the training process?

* How highly do you rate salary – is an increase your main motivator, or does job satisfaction rate further up on the scale of your priorities?

* Because there are so many ways to train in computing – you’ll need to get a solid grounding on what differentiates them.

* It makes sense to take in what is different for all the training areas.

For the average person, sifting through all these ideas requires a good chat with an experienced pro that has direct industry experience. And we don’t just mean the certifications – you also need to understand the commercial expectations and needs of the market as well.

Including exams upfront and offering an ‘Exam Guarantee’ is common for a good many training companies. Consider the facts:

Patently it’s not free – you are paying for it – the price has simply been included in the whole thing.

People who take each progressive exam, paying as they go are much better placed to get through first time. They are conscious of what they’ve paid and revise more thoroughly to be ready for the task.

Don’t you think it’s more sensible to find the best exam deal or offer at the appropriate time, not to pay the fees marked up by the training company, and also to sit exams more locally – rather than in some remote centre?

Buying a course that includes payments for examination fees (plus interest – if you’re financing your study) is bad financial management. Why fill a company’s coffers with your money just to give them a good cash-flow! Some will be pinning their hopes on the fact that you will never make it to exams – then they’ll keep the extra money.

Many training companies will require you to sit pre-tests and prohibit you from re-taking an exam until you’ve demonstrated an excellent ability to pass – making an ‘exam guarantee’ just about worthless.

Spending hundreds or even thousands extra on an ‘Exam Guarantee’ is remiss – when consistent and systematic learning, coupled with quality exam simulation software is what will really guarantee success.

With hundreds of computer courses available, it can be difficult to know where to start. Choose one that matches up with your personality and your level of ability, and that will be a useful asset in the working environment.

With hundreds of computer courses available, it can be difficult to know where to start. Choose one that matches up with your personality and your level of ability, and that will be a useful asset in the working environment.

Whether it’s office skills you’re looking to polish up on, or would like to achieve professional qualifications in IT, there are plain-speaking courses and assistance to help you achieve your goals.

Because there are such a lot of competitively priced, easily understood training programs and help, it’s easy to discover the right one that will take you where you want to go.

Be alert that all certifications you’re considering doing will be recognised by employers and are up-to-date. ‘In-house’ certificates are often meaningless.

The main industry leaders such as Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA have globally acknowledged proficiency courses. These big-hitters can make sure you stand out at interview.

Far too many companies only concern themselves with gaining a certificate, and completely miss why you’re doing this – which will always be getting the job or career you want. Your focus should start with the end goal – don’t get hung-up on the training vehicle.

Imagine training for just one year and then end up performing the job-role for decades. Avoid the mistake of choosing what sounds like an ‘interesting’ training program only to waste your life away with a job you hate!

Get to grips with what you want to earn and whether you’re an ambitious person or not. This will influence what certifications will be expected and what industry will expect from you in return.

All students are advised to speak with an experienced industry professional before they make a decision on a particular learning path. This helps to ensure it contains the relevant skills for that career path.

The world of information technology is one of the most thrilling and changing industries you could be involved with. Being a member of a team working on breakthroughs in technology puts you at the fore-front of developments that will affect us all over the next generation.

We’ve barely started to scrape the surface of how technology will define our world. Computers and the web will profoundly transform the way we see and interrelate with the entire world over the coming decades.

Let’s not forget that on average, the income of a person in the IT market in Great Britain is a lot higher than remuneration packages in other industries, so in general you will more than likely earn significantly more as a trained IT professional, than you would in most typical jobs.

Due to the technological sector developing at an unprecedented rate, it’s likely that demand for certified IT specialists will flourish for quite some time to come.

We need to make this very clear: You absolutely must have proper 24×7 instructor support. You will have so many problems later if you let this one slide.

Never accept study programmes that only provide support to you with a call-centre messaging service outside of normal office hours. Colleges will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. The bottom line is – you want support at the appropriate time – not when it’s convenient for them.

Keep looking and you’ll come across professional companies who offer online direct access support all the time – including evenings, nights and weekends.

If you opt for less than direct-access round-the-clock support, you’ll quickly find yourself regretting it. It may be that you don’t use it in the middle of the night, but you may need weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point.

If you think Cisco training might be for you, and you haven’t worked with routers, the chances are your first course should be the CCNA training. This will give you the necessary skills to set up and maintain routers. The world wide web is built up of many routers, and big organisations with various different locations also need routers to allow their networks to talk to each other.

Jobs that use this type of qualification mean the chances are you’ll work for national or international companies that have several locations but need to keep in touch. Alternatively, you may find yourself working for an internet service provider. Either way, you’ll be in demand and can expect a high salary.

The correct skill set and comprehension ahead of starting the CCNA is crucial. Therefore, it’s probably necessary to speak to an advisor who will know what you need.

A typical blunder that potential students often succumb to is to concentrate on the course itself, and take their eye off where they want to get to. Schools are brimming over with students that chose an ‘interesting’ course – instead of what would yield the job they want.

Never let yourself become one of those unfortunate people who choose a training program that seems ‘fun’ or ‘interesting’ – and end up with a plaque on the wall for a career they’ll never really get any satisfaction from.

Make sure you investigate what your attitude is towards earning potential and career progression, and how ambitious you are. You need to know what will be expected of you, what particular qualifications they want you to have and how to develop your experience.

It’s worth seeking guidance from someone who understands the sector you think may suit you, and is able to give you ‘A day in the life of’ synopsis of the job being considered. This really is essential because you need to know if this change is right for you.

A useful feature that several companies offer is a programme of Job Placement assistance. It’s intention is to assist your search for your first position. It can happen though that too much is made of this feature, as it is actually not that hard for any motivated and trained individual to get a job in the IT industry – as employers are keen to find appropriately trained staff.

Help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews might be provided (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Be sure to you bring your CV right up to date right away – don’t wait until you’ve finished your exams!

It’s possible that you won’t have even qualified when you land your first junior support role; yet this is not possible if interviewers don’t get sight of your CV.

You can usually expect better results from a specialist locally based employment agency than any course provider’s employment division, because they’ll know the local area and commercial needs better.

A common grievance of a number of training course providers is how hard men and women are focused on studying to become certified, but how ill-prepared they are to market themselves for the job they’re qualified for. Don’t give up when the best is yet to come.

One area often overlooked by people thinking about a course is that of ‘training segmentation’. Essentially, this is the way the course is divided up for delivery to you, which makes a huge difference to what you end up with.

Individual deliveries for each training module one stage at a time, according to your own speed is the usual method of releasing your program. Of course, this sounds sensible, but you might like to consider this:

It’s not unusual for trainees to realise that the company’s typical path to completion isn’t the easiest way for them. They might find a slightly different order suits them better. Could it cause problems if you don’t get everything done at the pace they expect?

Put simply, the best solution is to have their ideal ‘order’ of training laid out, but to receive all the materials up-front. Everything is then in your possession should you not complete it at their required pace.

Have a conversation with a professional consultant and they’ll entertain you with many worrying experiences of students who’ve been conned by dodgy salespeople. Make sure you deal with an experienced industry advisor that asks lots of questions to discover the most appropriate thing for you – not for their bank-account! You must establish a starting-point that will suit you.

Quite often, the level to start at for a student with a little experience will be largely different to the student with none.

If this is going to be your opening crack at studying for an IT examination then you may want to cut your teeth on some basic user skills first.

Should you be looking for training tracks certified by Microsoft, you will no doubt be hoping for training companies to supply a large selection of the most superior training courses available today.

Should you be looking for training tracks certified by Microsoft, you will no doubt be hoping for training companies to supply a large selection of the most superior training courses available today.

Perhaps you’d like to be given advice on the sort of careers available to you after you’ve completed your training, and the kind of person those jobs may be appropriate for. Many people like to discuss what the best route is for them.

Be sure your training course is tailored to your needs and abilities. The best companies will ensure that your training track is designed for the job you want to get.

We’d hazard a guess that you’re a practical sort of person – a ‘hands-on’ type. Typically, the unfortunate chore of reading reference guides is something you’ll make yourself do if you have to, but it’s not ideal. Consider interactive, multimedia study if learning from books is not your thing.

Learning psychology studies show that much more of what we learn in remembered when we involve as many senses as possible, and we put into practice what we’ve been studying.

Locate a program where you’ll get a host of CD and DVD ROM’s – you’ll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, and be able to fine-tune your skills in fully interactive practice sessions.

Make sure to obtain a demonstration of the study materials from the training company. The package should contain demo’s from instructors, slideshows and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

It is generally unwise to select online only courseware. With highly variable reliability and quality from the ISP (internet service provider) market, you should always obtain actual CD or DVD ROM’s.

Qualifications from the commercial sector are now, most definitely, starting to replace the traditional routes into the IT industry – but why is this?

With 3 and 4 year academic degree costs increasing year on year, alongside the IT sector’s recognition that accreditation-based training most often has much more commercial relevance, we have seen a large rise in Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA authorised training programmes that create knowledgeable employees at a fraction of the cost and time involved.

In a nutshell, only that which is required is learned. It’s not quite as straightforward as that, but the most important function is always to cover the precise skills needed (along with a certain amount of crucial background) – without trying to cram in everything else – in the way that academic establishments often do.

In simple terms: Commercial IT certifications give employers exactly what they’re looking for – it says what you do in the title: i.e. I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Managing and Maintaining Windows Server 2003′. So companies can identify exactly what they need and which qualifications are required to fulfil that.

Don’t get hung-up, as a lot of students can, on the certification itself. Training is not an end in itself; this is about employment. Begin and continue with the end in mind.

You could be training for only a year and end up performing the job-role for decades. Don’t make the error of choosing what sounds like a program of interest to you only to spend 20 years doing a job you don’t like!

Spend some time thinking about earning potential and the level of your ambition. Sometimes, this affects what precise exams you’ll need to attain and what you can expect to give industry in return.

Look for help from an experienced professional who appreciates the market you’re interested in, and who can give you ‘A day in the life of’ understanding of of what you’ll be doing day-to-day. It’s sensible to ensure you’re on the right track long before the training program is started. After all, what is the reason in kicking off your training and then find you’ve taken the wrong route.

The somewhat scary thought of securing your first computer related job is often made easier by some training providers because they offer a Job Placement Assistance facility. The honest truth is that it isn’t so complicated as you might think to land your first job – as long as you’ve got the necessary skills and qualifications; the shortage of IT personnel in Britain looks after that.

However, avoid waiting until you have finished your training before getting your CV updated. As soon as you start a course, mark down what you’re doing and get promoting!

Various junior support jobs have been offered to people who are still learning and have yet to take their exams. At the very least this will get your CV into the ‘possible’ pile and not the ‘no’ pile.

Normally you’ll get quicker service from an independent and specialised local recruitment consultancy than you’ll get from a training course provider’s centralised service, because they’ll know local industry and the area better.

In a nutshell, if you put the same amount of effort into getting a position as into training, you won’t find it too challenging. Some students strangely spend hundreds of hours on their learning program and then call a halt once they’ve passed their exams and seem to expect employers to find them.

In today’s high speed society, support workers who have the ability to solve problems with PC’s and networks, plus give regular help to users, are hugely valuable in every sector of the economy. Our country’s need for larger numbers of qualified personnel is growing, as society becomes ever more dependent on computers in these modern times.

A lot of men and women are under the impression that the state educational track is the right way even now. So why then are qualifications from the commercial sector beginning to overtake it?

With fees and living expenses for university students spiralling out of control, and the industry’s growing opinion that key company training often has more relevance in the commercial field, there’s been a great increase in Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe certified training programmes that educate students for considerably less.

In a nutshell, only that which is required is learned. It isn’t quite as lean as that might sound, but the principle remains that students need to cover the precise skills needed (including a degree of required background) – without trying to cram in everything else (as universities often do).

In simple terms: Recognised IT certifications provide exactly what an employer needs – it says what you do in the title: as an example – I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Windows XP Administration and Configuration’. So an employer can look at their needs and what certifications are required to perform the job.

It can be a nerve-racking task, but landing your first job can be relieved by some companies, via a Job Placement Assistance service. Often, too much is made of this feature, as it is actually not that hard for a well trained and motivated person to secure work in IT – because there’s a great need for trained staff.

Advice and support about getting interviews and your CV should be offered (if not, see one of our sites for help). Ensure you work on your old CV today – don’t wait until you’ve finished your exams!

Getting onto the ‘maybe’ pile of CV’s is far better than not even being known about. A decent number of junior support jobs are got by trainees (who’ve only just left first base.)

Most often, an independent and specialised local employment service (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) will be more pro-active than a recruitment division from a training organisation. In addition, they will no doubt be familiar with the local industry and employment needs.

A good number of students, it seems, spend evenings and weekends on their training and studies (for years sometimes), and just give up when it comes to trying to get a job. Sell yourself… Do everything you can to get in front of employers. A job isn’t just going to bump into you.

All programs you’re considering really needs to work up to a nationally (or globally) recognised certification as an end-goal – not a useless ‘in-house’ diploma – fit only for filing away and forgetting.

To an employer, only the big-boys like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (to give some examples) will get you short-listed. Anything less just won’t hit the right spot.

You should look for an authorised exam preparation system included in the package you choose.

Some students can get thrown by going through practice questions that aren’t from authorised sources. Sometimes, the phraseology can be completely unlike un-authorised versions and it’s vital that you know this.

Simulated exams will prove enormously valuable as a tool for logging knowledge into your brain – so that when you come to take the real thing, you don’t get uptight.

Just ten percent of adults in this country are pleased and contented with their working life. The vast majority of course will take no action. You’ve reached this paragraph, which at a minimum means that you’ve realised change must come.

We’d recommend that before you start any individual training program, you run through some things with a mentor who knows the industry and can give you advice. They can assess your personality and assist in finding the right role for you:

* Would you like to work with others? If the answer’s yes, would you enjoy being part of a team or are you hoping to meet new people? Alternatively, do you like to deal with your responsibilities alone?

* What do you need from the market sector you work in? (Things do change – look at the building trade, or banks for example.)

* Having completed your retraining, would you like this skill to serve you till you retire?

* Are you worried about the possibility of getting new work, and being in demand in the employment market right up to retirement?

Look at the IT sector, that’s our recommendation – it’s one of the few sectors of industry still growing in this country and overseas. In addition, salaries and benefits exceed most other industries.

One useful service that several companies offer is a Job Placement Assistance program. The service is put in place to steer you into your first IT role. The fact of the matter is it’s not as difficult as you may be led to believe to secure a job – as long as you’ve got the necessary skills and qualifications; the shortage of IT personnel in Britain looks after that.

However, what is relevant is to have help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews though; and we’d encourage all students to get their CV updated as soon as training commences – don’t delay until you’ve graduated or passed any exams.

Getting onto the ‘maybe’ pile of CV’s is better than being rejected. A surprising amount of junior support jobs are got by people who are still at an early stage in their studies.

Actually, a specialist locally based employment service (who will get paid commission to place you) will perform better than any division of a training company. In addition, they will no doubt know the local area and commercial needs.

Many trainees, apparently, conscientiously work through their course materials (for years sometimes), only to give up at the first hurdle when looking for the right position. Promote yourself… Make an effort to put yourself out there. Good jobs don’t just knock on your door.

Often, individuals don’t really get what IT can do for us. It’s thrilling, changing, and puts you at the fore-front of developments in technology affecting everyones lives in the 21st century.

We’re only just starting to get an inclination of how technology will influence everything we do. Computers and the Internet will massively revolutionise how we see and interact with the world as a whole over the years to come.

And it’s worth remembering that the average salary in the world of IT throughout this country is much higher than the national average salary, so you’ll probably receive much more in the IT sector, than you would in most typical jobs.

Excitingly, there is no end in sight for IT sector growth throughout this country. The sector is continuing to expand quickly, and as we have a significant shortage of skilled professionals, it’s not showing any signs that there’ll be any kind of easing off for the significant future.

Considering the amount of options that are available, is it any wonder that nearly all trainees have no idea which career they could be successful with.

How can most of us possibly understand the tasks faced daily in an IT career when we’ve never done it? Most likely we don’t know someone who is in that area at all.

To come through this, we need to discuss a variety of definitive areas:

* Our personalities play a significant role – what kind of areas spark your interest, and what are the areas that get you down.

* What sort of time-frame do you want for your training?

* Is the money you make further up on your wish list than some other areas.

* Learning what typical career roles and sectors are – and what makes them different.

* You have to understand what differentiates each individual training area.

To be honest, your only option to seek advice on these areas will be via a meeting with an advisor who has years of experience in Information Technology (and more importantly it’s commercial needs.)

Make sure that all your certifications are what employers want – forget programs that lead to in-house certificates.

Only properly recognised examinations from the major players like Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA and Adobe will have any meaning to employers.

Those searching for education to get in the IT industry will notice the variety of courses in existence. Before starting a training program, seek out a training organisation with a team of advisors, so you can be fully informed on the job roles your course will lead you to. You could uncover employment opportunities you weren’t aware of.

You can choose from user skills courses, or take a career track and specialise. Easy to follow courses will help you to realise your dreams.

Currently, there are a variety of user-friendly and well priced courses available that will give you all the tools you need.

Many trainers will provide a useful Job Placement Assistance service, to help you into your first commercial role. Often, too much is made of this feature, as it’s really not that difficult for any focused and well taught person to secure work in this industry – because there’s a great need for trained staff.

Advice and support about getting interviews and your CV should be offered (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Be sure to you polish up your CV straight away – not when you’re ready to start work!

It’s not unusual to find that you will get your first position while still studying (even when you’ve just left first base). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile (and it’s not being looked at by employers) then you aren’t even in the running!

Generally, you’ll receive better performance from a local IT focused recruitment consultant or service than you’ll get from a training course provider’s centralised service, because they’ll know local industry and the area better.

Just ensure you don’t invest a great deal of time on your training course, just to give up and leave it in the hands of the gods to sort out your employment. Stand up for yourself and make your own enquiries. Channel as much focus into getting the right position as it took to get qualified.

Authorised exam preparation packages are crucial – and must be sought from your training supplier.

Be sure that the practice exams aren’t just asking you the right questions in the right areas, but also asking them in the way the real exams will pose them. This completely unsettles people if they’re met with completely different formats and phraseologies.

A way to build self-confidence is if you verify your depth of understanding by doing tests and mock ups of exams to get you ready for the real deal.

An all too common mistake that students everywhere can make is to concentrate on the course itself, and not focus on the desired end-result. Training academies are stacked to the hilt with direction-less students who took a course because it seemed fun – rather than what would get them the job they want.

It’s quite usual, in many cases, to obtain tremendous satisfaction from a year of studying and then spend 20 miserable years in something completely unrewarding, as an upshot of not doing the correct level of soul-searching at the beginning.

Get to grips with how much you want to earn and how ambitious you are. Often, this changes what precise certifications you will need and what’ll be expected of you in your new role.

Sense dictates that you always seek guidance and advice from an experienced industry professional before making your final decision on a particular training programme, so you can be sure that a program provides the skill-set required for your career choice.

Sometimes, people don’t understand what IT is about. It is stimulating, innovative, and puts you at the fore-front of developments in technology affecting everyones lives in the 21st century.

We’ve only just begun to get an inclination of how technology is going to shape our lives. Computers and the web will massively revolutionise the way we regard and interrelate with the rest of the world over the coming decades.

And it’s worth remembering that typical remuneration in the IT industry throughout this country is noticeably greater than in other market sectors, which means you will more than likely gain considerably more in the IT sector, than you could reasonably hope to achieve elsewhere.

Experts agree that there’s a considerable country-wide requirement for certified IT specialists. And as the industry constantly develops, it appears this will be the case for a good while yet.

Because you’re doing your research on MCSE training programs, it’s possible you’re in one of the following categories: You’re possibly contemplating completely changing your working life to get into the IT field, and all evidence points to a great need for qualified people. Or you’re already a professional – and you want to enhance your CV with an MCSE.

When looking into training providers, be sure to don’t use those who reduce their costs by failing to provide the latest level of Microsoft development. Such institutions will hold back the trainee their knowledge will be of the wrong MCSE version which doesn’t match the current exam syllabus, so it will make it very difficult for them to pass.

The focus of a training company must be centred on the absolute best they can for their trainees, and they should be passionate about their results. Career study isn’t just about the certification – the process must also include assisting you in working on the most suitable route for you.

One area often overlooked by trainees weighing up a particular programme is ‘training segmentation’. Basically, this means the way the course is divided up for drop-shipping to you, which can make a dramatic difference to what you end up with.

Most companies will sell you a 2 or 3 year study programme, and courier the materials in pieces as you complete each section or exam. Sounds reasonable? Well consider these facts:

What if there are reasons why you can’t finish all the sections or exams? What if you don’t find their order of learning is ideal for you? Because of nothing that’s your fault, you may not meet the required timescales and not receive all the modules you’ve paid for.

In all honesty, the perfect answer is to get an idea of what they recommend as an ideal study order, but get everything up-front. Meaning you’ve got it all if you don’t manage to finish as fast as they’d like.

Beware of putting too much emphasis, like so many people do, on the accreditation program. Training for training’s sake is generally pointless; this is about employment. You need to remain focused on where you want to go.

Don’t let yourself become part of the group who select a program which looks like it could be fun – and get to the final hurdle of an accreditation for something they’ll never enjoy.

You also need to know what your attitude is towards earning potential, career development, and if you’re ambitious or not. It’s vital to know what industry expects from you, what particular certifications are needed and where you’ll pick-up experience from.

Seek help from an experienced advisor who ‘gets’ the commercial realities of the area you’re interested in, and who can offer ‘A typical day in the life of’ outline of what kinds of tasks you’ll be undertaking day-to-day. It’s sensible to discover if this is the right course of action for you well before you jump into the study-program. There’s little point in starting to train only to find you’ve taken the wrong route.

Some training companies will only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later; most won’t answer after 8-9pm at the latest and frequently never at the weekends.

Look for training with help available at any time you choose (even if it’s early hours on Sunday morning!) Ensure you get access directly to professional tutors, and not a call-centre that will take messages so you’re waiting for tutors to call you back – probably during office hours.

Keep looking and you’ll come across professional companies who provide their students direct-access online support at all times – no matter what time of day it is.

Never make do with a lower level of service. Online 24×7 support is the only kind to make the grade for IT courses. Perhaps you don’t intend to study during the evenings; but for most of us, we’re at work during the provided support period.

A lot of men and women presume that the tech college or university path is the right way even now. So why are qualifications from the commercial sector becoming more in demand?

Industry is now aware that to learn the appropriate commercial skills, the right accreditation from the likes of Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe is far more effective and specialised – at a far reduced cost both money and time wise.

In essence, the learning just focuses on what’s actually required. Actually, it’s not quite as pared down as that, but principally the objective has to be to concentrate on the fundamentally important skill-sets (along with a certain amount of crucial background) – without trying to cram in all sorts of other things (as degree courses are known to do).

When an employer knows what areas they need covered, then all it takes is an advert for the particular skill-set required. The syllabuses are all based on the same criteria and aren’t allowed to deviate (like academia frequently can and does).
