The process of replacing a faulty sink drain is not as much difficult as it is described by the plumbers. In reality you can easily replace it without the need of the plumber. Replacing a leaky drain requires some basic plumbing tools like wrench and a little bit of plumber’s putty. Using the above equipments, you can easily get away from the serious bill charged by the plumber instead. The above mentioned things can be purchased from any of the home improvement stores at reasonable prices.
Start off by confiscating the ‘p’ trap. The ‘p’ trap can be removed easily by detaching a pair of bolts that are holding it in place. If comfortable you can get under the sink so that you can get a clear view. After removing the ‘p’ trap, come over to the sink tail piece and remove it as well. You can unscrew the sink tail-piece by unbolting the nuts that are holding it in place.
When done with the ‘p’ trap, come to the sink tail piece and remove it as well. After that, unscrew the nut that is under the sink using your drain wrench. While unscrewing the nut, remember to hold the top side of the drain in place.
You may ask for help from other members of the family to complete the task.
When the bottom side bolt is unfastened, take away the top side of the drain. Wipe off the filth and dirt building underneath the drain. Put an appropriate amount of plumber’s putty under the new drain. Put it back in the hole of the sink.
Now, lock down the drain in place by tightening the nut beneath the drain. Screw up the nuts using appropriate wrench until they are tightened up against the sink. Wipe off the extra putty that is pressed out from the sink and the drain.
Substitute the tail piece that goes all the way to the p-trap from the bottom of the drain. After that, replace the p-trap and turn on the face of the faucet to the sink. Now, turn on the faucet and check for any kind of leaks.
If still you are not able to fix the leaks then it requires the special tactics of a plumber. Choose your plumber carefully and from a reputed company only.
