The following article highlights some information, tips and methods for entrepreneurs who are wanting to get into vending. The vending industry can offer those that work hard at it a ‘lifestyle’ business opportunity that really differs from all others. Lots of hard work is required in the beginning but the result is an operation that can give owners the passive income that they desire.
1) While vending offers excellent passive income opportunities in the long run, it can be slow to get the profits flowing in the beginning. Make sure that you have money put aside to cover living costs or consider staying on at your job until things start running well and the money is coming in.
2) Establishing a vending route takes time and patience. If you have access to sufficient capital then you could think about buying an existing vending route. Make sure that you do your due diligence and go out with the owner to assess the route several times before agreeing to buy.
3) Never allow yourself to be talked into a bad deal by vending machine manufacturers or sales agents. It is possible to get machines cheaper second hand or can even shop on eBay for machines that are almost new! So many entrepreneurs get carried away with machine purchases when they start out so help them clear their garage at discounted prices.
4) Stick with products that sell well but occasionally introduce new products to test them out. Keep track of sales and try to maximize them by having your machines stocked with the products that your customers want and consume regularly.
5) Get to know other vendors! Get together with other local vendors who may not necessarily be competing directly with you. There may be a lot of advantages to be gained by cooperating with them.
6) Never give ‘decision makers’ an excuse to decide that your services are no longer needed. Act professionally at all times, don’t make a nuisance of yourself when you are servicing your machines and make sure that you keep machines clean and well stocked.
7) Ensure that your machines don’t run out of products. If necessary, double up on popular items or you might risk losing the location to a more organized competitor.
Be organized. Manage your time well and learn more about some of the systems that you can implement to manage inventory, machines, employees and routes.
9) Have a logo designed and put it on your vans, your uniform, your machines and your stationery. Stand out in the market! Attract new customers by implying that you run a trustworthy and established business.
10) Develop a strategy to ‘up sell’ your locations on additional vending machines. If they already have one of your machines then it may not be difficult to set them up with another.
These are just a few tips and ideas to inspire you to get started as a vendor or to help you to improve your existing business.
