Tips On Building A Hand Operated Electric Generator

There are a number of minor electrical projects that can teach you the right way of saving electrical energy. You can even use such projects as a learning platform for the infants. In that context, a hand-operated electric generator is too easy to build at home.

Beforehand, gather some information about the electric generators. They are the machines that generate electrical power with the help of certain mechanical processes. The number of services offered by such electric generators makes them a clear favorite with the homeowners and the electricians.

Start off the campaign by arranging a DC motor. You can take some valuable suggestions from an expert regarding the same. Make sure that you select high voltage and amperage limit for your DC motor. Such a setting would widen the range of electrical devices that could avail the services of your electric generator. A DC motor with 6 volts and 1 ampere current is appropriate to start with.

Once you have completed the first phase of the project, move to the construction of the hand crank. The crank complements the axle of the DC motor and renders a comfortable handling to the user. A long plastic or wooden component would serve the required purpose.

Some users prefer to add gears to the overall setting. The addition of gears leads to the increase of the output power. However, the construction of gears may become complicating for the beginners. Hence, such fixtures are avoided in the first place.

Now, initiate the wiring of the hand operated electric generator. Connect the two wires to their respective terminals on the DC motor. Wire the other ends of the cords to the probes of the concerned battery.

Test the basic operation of your newly constructed electric generator by turning the crank. The battery unit must have a voltage that falls within the prescribed range.

Once you become familiar with the basic working of an electric generator, you can start experimenting on a higher voltage scale as well. Until then, stick to the lower voltage level only.
