We all know very well that 2009 was very bad year for economy like US. The good news is that 2010 will prove recovery in some sectors. But the bad news is that the high unemployment rate will continue. But there will be fewer jobs available, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any opportunity next year. Companies will still be doing business and they will still need talented employees who can compete. Are you a value added employee? Remember this: there is always a place for you in this evolving economy, but only if you think differently than in the past. Here are four resolutions to maximize your chances of scoring a job in 2010:
Resolution #1: Get in the Game:
Forget passivity and be positive. Just stretch yourself and it is better if you come out of your comfort zone and insistently search beyond the listed jobs you find on the internet. This only requires a game plan and a belief that you are going to win this game. Because this is not the right time to get seated with those who want to regret that how bad it is out there. Decide instead to excel and achieve at your job search.
It is better if you are doing something to refine your search. Positive action removes your worry and other negative feelings. This goes beyond survival of the fittest. Those who want to succeed it only require a strong will power and determination. Be sure you will never lose any job search process. Regularly just remind yourself that you will succeed and will outlast this challenge.
Resolution #2: Think and Talk ROI:
Guess what? Old ways of selling your skill and time no longer exist in this tough economy. Now it is better if you can show your employer or client that how better problem solver you are. Employer those hire those people those who can become liabilities on their balance sheets. They hire people those who can provide return on investment to the company. For this you can demonstrate your clear benefits that you can offer to them.
For this just look at your skills, experience, abilities and talents you possess. Just show your skills in front of the employer that how you can make money or save money for the organization. Try to turn your skills and talents into benefit that can employer understand and appreciate. Pull out experiences from last organization that what you have learnt and think that how your work will save money, make money or otherwise improve the situation of your employee.
Education and skills, while valuable, do not translate into benefits. Just think this thing that what you can do for this employer that your competitor can’t. Because you have unique set of qualities just try to convert them into your USP that can sell your major assets that you also can offer to your next employer.
Resolution #3: Widen Your Network
Earlier it was very easy to find work by responding to internet job boards or corporate websites. But now it is very difficult to limit your search only to internet ads and afterwards expect a success. That’s why only 12% of new hires comes from the job boards and 27 % however comes from internal sources that means networking according to the latest annual Source of Hire Study by CareerXRoads. It is good if you start widening your network both in person and online by making some new contacts each week through local events or related professional meetings. Adding your bio and profile on social networking sites is a better idea. LinkedIn and Facebook also have a “groups” feature that allows you to seek out and join other groups, not only in job search, like my VIP Club, but also industry and professional groups that you can introduce yourself to. If you want to establish your expertise aiming a selected target groups The “Ask/Answer a Question” feature is a good option. Twitter has also become an excellent way to follow movers and shakers plus make yourself known to a wider playing field.
That’s why it is well said that don’t forget your family, friends and neighbors who might know someone. Because the more connection you make the higher the chances of success.
Resolution #4: Inoculate Yourself against Negative Messages
Achieving a success in searching a job requires us to be ready and prepared ourselves to deliver at any moment’s notice. During the process if you allow some negative energy to come over your way they may drag your legs behind by causing fear, dishearten and anxiety. It is very necessary to close those doors which are allowing negative thoughts to enter from outside environment, at least for some period of time so that you can focus on your targets i.e. on your job search. It is better if you get in touch with those people who help you fight negative emotions. To search a job means undertaking some big task and all this negativity in environment can’t be afforded, may it be your any close relative or any media. Going through books, magazines and articles that can fuel your thoughts in a positive way and motivate you to be on your path. Keep reminding yourself of avoiding anything out of this league.
