Tiffany lamps were first created in 1895, Tiffany lamps are known for their intricacy and beautiful design. They were handmade by talented craftsmen, and never produced in mass or by machine. Louis Comfort Tiffany was first believed to have conceptualized the design for these wonderful lamps. But we now know that it was Clara Driscoll who masterfully designed these leaded glass lamps produced by Tiffany Studios. Tiffany first went into interior design in New York. He designed stained glass windows.
There are seven categories for Tiffany lamps. The following are Favrile, Geometric, Irregular Upper and Lower Border, Transition to Flowers, Flowered Globe lamps, and Flowered Cone. The Favrile design is the first design wherein Tiffany is first known. The Geometric category is made mostly be skilled men who created the Tiffany in the form of ovals, squares, rectangles, and triangles.
The Irregular Upper and Lower Border have openwork crown edges to stimulate a trees, branches, or shrubberies. Transition to Flowers is subdivided into Flowered Cone and Globe lamps. These lamps all have a botanical design of butterflies, flowers, spiders with webs, dragonflies, and peacock feathers.
The process of making the Tiffany Lamps can be in itself very intricate. The lamps are created with the use of the Copper Foil method. At the beginning, the desired pattern is drawn first on a cardboard. Some designs of numbers and glass colors will then put on the pattern. After putting the glass on the top and put some traces on it, the pieces will soon be cut and designed according to the desired shape
When that process above is finished, craftsmen will clean the pieces properly before the copper foil is applied to the edges. The copper foil will support the edges together. Afterwards, the lamp will soon be set and its edges soldered firmly and finally clean the lamp again.
The final product that is now known as the Tiffany Lamp, as first conceived by Clara Driscoll, will be worth a lot of dollars. The smallest model can be bought at $70 and can go as high as $2,000 for the bigger models of Tiffanys. Yet again it will be all worth it. Like any other work of art, it will not just illumine your home but will also add wonder and magic in your place.
